While shooting a 7 part series for The Discovery Channel in Central America, I forgot to make hotel reservations so our crew slept in a cemetery in Janitzio Mexico during "The Day of the Dead" celebration.

It's all about improvisation.

While shooting "The Gathering" for HBO/Cinemax, I asked Peter Fonda for a photo op. He gladly accepted and asked me where I wanted him to stand. I told him he was fine where he was and then handed him my camera. He looked at me strangely as I walked over to Robbie Kenevil and said, "OK Peter, we're ready".

While working with Lyrick Studios on the "Barney" television program, I was asked to develop some new ideas for the program open. After working diligently for 3 days I proudly presented my ideas. The executive producer looked at me and said, "Tom, this is Barney not Star Search. Do it again".

I began my professional career as a commercial building engineer designing and renovating commercial property for GSA, General Services Administration which is a branch of the U.S. Government. My use of CAD (computer aided design) applications inspired me to look further into the world of graphic design as a hobby. Soon after, I was neck deep in 3D applications producing animation for a wide variety of clients.

At the recommendation of a producer at JC Penney, my name came across the desk of the Marketing Director for Lyric Studios, producers of the "Barney" franchise. I was retained for the development of the marketing campaign to launch the Barney theme park at Universal Studios Florida. This caught the attention of the Executive Producers for television production and I began a developing and creating animation and effects for the regular series. My association with "Barney" resulted in new program open, 2 seasons of animation and effects, 5 home video releases and a national award for the "Barney Safety Video". I think we might have had lunch a couple of times also.

After several years I shifted my focus to include full television production for Mariel Media Group, a bilingual media production and publishing company in Dallas Texas. As Production Manager my responsibilities cover television production and convergent media projects with staff of 12. Please see the galleries for details.

I am published in both print and video. I have written for several trade publications, written 2 screenplays and have produced a video series on business in the television industry. I have assisted in the development 2 national marketing and fund raising events for The March of Dimes and The United Way. My association with The March of dimes has been ongoing since 1996. My work with the United Way has garnered 2 James F. Chambers Awards, the highest given by The United Way for excellence in a visual medium.

I have been extremely fortunate in my career. If it were not for the patience and guidance of countless individuals, I would not be where I am. I have worked and learned from many who saw potential that I never knew existed. Good business is and will always be about people.

At present, I am cutting my teeth on interactive Web and DVD development. Technology has a way of education you whether you like it or not! For a comprehensive look at past and present projects, please see the gallery sections.
